2026 Public Holidays Taiwan Service
The above is the list of 2026 public holidays declared in Taiwan which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Taiwan holiday calendar for 2026 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
Taiwan has one of the highest numbers of holidays and observances in the world. Some of the holidays are official, whereas some are not. The government hold the power to regulate the holidays observed and declare an additional holiday or cancel if and when the need arises. Effective from 1st January 2017, the government reduced the number of public holidays from 19 to 12 days each year through an amendment to the Labor Standards Act that also implemented a five-day workweek plan passed by the Taiwan Legislative Assembly. During the most famous religious and national holidays, the nation's usual activities nearly come to a standstill as major businesses like banks and government offices remain closed as the people celebrate with great enthusiasm.
Taiwan uses both Western and Chinese Lunar calendars, which may lead to some holidays being marked on the same day. Others may shift from one year to the other. Holidays that fall on a Saturday are celebrated on the preceding day (Friday), while those that fall on a Sunday are observed on the following day (Monday). It is worth noting that some holidays in Taiwan may be regional, non-official, or limited to certain linguistic groupings or religions. Other holidays may be scheduled to begin at a time other than midnight. Therefore, it is a wise move to confirm the fixed schedules to avoid inconveniences and breaking of applicable laws.
According to the nation's labor laws, the decision as to whether employees work on national holidays and how payment for their services is calculated is guided by the employer-employee contract while relevant and immediate authorities handle any disagreements.
