The above is the list of 2023 public holidays declared in Malaysia which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Malaysia holiday calendar for 2023 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.

Malaysia public holidays are categorized into two, National and state level. National holidays are observed nationally. Government entities, schools, and businesses are closed during these holidays. Workers are given a paid day off. State level holidays, on the other hand, are observed by individual states, and it's usually an important event for the state alone.

More than half of the state citizens are of the Muslim religion. For this reason, most religious holidays are based on the Islamic faith. Ramadan holy month is celebrated just like any other Muslim nation. At the end of Ramadan, Muslims hold Eid-ul-Fitr to mark the end of the sacred month. The days are graced with lots of feasting. Eid-ul-Fitr is not only a day to celebrate the end of Ramadan in Malaysia, but it is also the day people unite and help those that have different problems.

A few Christians in Malaysia are entitled to celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday / Easter Monday. The most celebrated holiday is Christmas which is celebrated Nationwide. Buddhists celebrate Wesak to pay tribute to the birth of Lord Buddha.

Amongst the public holidays celebrated in Malaysia is the Chinese New Year. This is the only holiday that is accorded two days of celebrations. It is the most colorful festival with stunning red paintings across the nation.

Malaysia Day is the most celebrated national holiday. In remembrance of the establishment of the Malaysian Federation, people congregate nationwide to celebrate the day as they mark it with colorful paintings, traditional dances and arts, and military parade.
