2023 Public Holidays Indonesia Service
The above is the list of 2023 public holidays declared in Indonesia which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Indonesia holiday calendar for 2023 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
A joint decree of ministers sets the public holidays in Indonesia every year. Indonesia has thirteen celebrated national holidays. The Indonesian government advocates for joint holidays. This concept allows that if the holiday falls on a Thursday or Tuesday, it is also celebrated on Friday and Monday. The joint holidays are provided to prolong weekend holidays. The policy was introduced to boost domestic tourism.
Indonesia holidays are categorized into four, religious, national, international and commemorative. The laws of the land require that all government offices, schools, and banks are closed during these holidays. All employees get a paid day off during national holidays, and if they work, they are given an overtime payment.
The government recognizes religious holidays as official. Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus celebrate their holidays on different days. The ministry of religion sets the dates of religious holidays. Muslim holiday dates vary each year because they are based on the Islamic calendar. The Muslims have several celebrations based on their religious beliefs. The most celebrated Muslim holiday is Idul Fitri and Milad-un Nabi/ Maulid which is the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.
The Hindus, Christians and the rest of religions celebrate their holidays every year following the public calendar. The dates of celebrations differ from one religion to another.
The most celebrated national holiday in Indonesia is the Independence Day. It is the day they celebrate the time they got independence after 350 years of colonization by the Dutch. The people of Indonesia mark the day with a lot of festivals accompanied by cultural dances, and songs military shows.
