2025 Public Holidays Canada Service
The above is the list of 2025 public holidays declared in Canada which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Canada holiday calendar for 2025 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
Statutory holidays is another name used to refer to public holidays in Canada. In Canada, public holidays are provided for by the federal, provincial and territorial government bodies. The people of Canada honor New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labor Day and Christmas Day as nationwide statutory holidays. Along with that, every province or territory has its’ own provincial or territorial statutory holidays.
Employees are allowed to request and have off days for traditional religious observances done by the Jewish, Eastern Orthodox or Muslim faiths. The Canadian Public Holiday Law provides for the freedom of employees to take a statutory holiday off with full compensation. An employee may agree to be on duty on a statutory holiday, but then they should sign on a written document. In such an arrangement, they decide to be on duty and are paid additional amounts to compensate for holiday pay, as specified by Canadian law.
It is allowed for extra compensation to employees who are required to work on a holiday, especially those in the private sector, for which their employers in the can determine the amount. That typically includes essential care workers, such as medical personnel, law enforcement staffs, and emergency services employees.
The Part III of the Canada Labor Code clearly states that employees can have up to nine paid holidays per year. Under the same Code, a statutory holiday is described as a day in the calendar in which professionals, managers, and employees are permitted to a day off with total compensation.
